Well it is Memorial Day, the traditional beginning to summer.
Welcome to my new blog, "Campfire Stories." From Memorial Day to Labor Day, I will share summertime stories and photos that will remind us of the important things that life has to offer.
When I think of summer, I think of so many wonderful things: the sun shining on my face; outdoor adventures with clothing that doesn't include a coat, hat and gloves; picnics; baseball; green lawns;vacations and much more...most of them happy and fun.
Well part of this is not necessarily true for me. You see I have what I call a "black thumb." I cannot keep my lawn green or healthy for the life of me. I apply weed stopper and of course weeds flourish instead. I guess if you call dandelions part of landscape, I have a well-landscaped yard.
I suppose part of it has to do with knowledge, time and money to maintain a healthy yard, none of which I have more than a little. However; a wise man once told me that I can raise my kids first and then raise my lawn. Good advice that I have tried to take in stride over the years.
It's rather humorous how kids view dandelions as flowers to pick and give to mom. When we grow older, we realize that they are a weed so we pick them, spray them, or do whatever is necessary to destroy or prevent them. Jesus said to have faith like a child. It is so easy not to because of our awareness of life as we adults know it. How can we have faith like a child?
Be deliberate in finding the good in all things. There is always something to be thankful for. I have true with this lately so I will grow from this as I hope you will too.
Take this analogy how you will. I choose to view my life of dandelions as flowers of opportunity to grow and improve. I see their beauty as an important part of life. Will you pick the dandelions?
Have a great summer everyone. Come back often to read more stories from the campfire.
